Athletics Track Line Marking & Surface Marking
From transferring track geometry to the ground through to the final line coat, every step runs under a single technical responsibility. The output is not a painted line — it is a measurable, documentable competition area.
Scope
We mark synthetic (polyurethane, prefabricated rubber), acrylic and unbound surfaces, on standard 400 m tracks and on non-standard geometries. A typical scope covers:
- Lane lines, lane numbers and inner kerb reference
- Staggered and straight start lines for all events from 100 m to 10,000 m
- Relay take-over zones and control marks
- Hurdle marks, steeplechase route and water jump transition
- Long and triple jump runways with take-off board references
- High jump, javelin, shot put, discus and hammer sector lines and cage references
- Management of conflicts with infield football or multi-sport markings
How the work runs
- Desk review. General layout drawing, surface type, radius, lane count and delivery constraints are assessed; missing data is listed.
- Geometric check. Existing axis, inner kerb and radius are surveyed with total station and compared against the theoretical geometry. Deviations are reported before any paint is applied.
- Setting out. Critical points — starts, finishes, transitions, sector apexes — are staked on site.
- Line application. Machine-assisted precision application with a primer and paint system matched to the surface.
- Control survey. Lane widths, distances and mark positions are re-measured after application.
- Technical file. Measured values, tolerance comparison and photographic records are handed over.
Technical references
Application and tolerance values follow the World Athletics Track and Field Facilities Manual and the Technical Rules in force. Where certification is the goal, the marking layout is kept identical to the marking plan in the application file, so no rework is triggered during certification.

Frequently asked questions
How long does line marking take?
It depends on facility scale, number of events, surface condition and weather. A firm day count is given per project at quotation stage.
Can you mark over existing lines?
Yes, but marking over existing geometry without surveying it first is not recommended — an incorrect layout becomes permanent. Control survey first, decision second.
Is line marking enough for certification?
Line marking is one component. Certification also needs a measurement report, surface test reports and an application file; we run those steps as well.
Do you work on international projects?
Yes. We have completed field work in 19+ countries; equipment, mobilisation and visa steps are planned within the quotation.
